sotra — Terms of Service
Last updated: 19 June 2026 Effective date: [TBD — date of publication]
1. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the website at sotra.ai and the sotra document-analysis service (together, the "Service"), operated by [TBD — legal entity name], registered in Estonia under number [TBD], with its registered office at [TBD — address] ("sotra", "we", "us", or "our").
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. What the Service does
sotra helps you understand your insurance coverage. You can upload insurance policy documents, and the Service uses automated analysis (including a third-party AI model) to summarise your coverage, compare policies, and highlight potential exclusions or gaps.
The Service is an informational tool. It is not insurance advice, legal advice, or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for reading your policy or consulting your insurer or a qualified professional.
3. Important disclaimer about accuracy
You acknowledge and agree that:
- the analysis produced by the Service is generated automatically and may contain errors, omissions, or misinterpretations;
- the Service may not detect every exclusion, limit, or condition in a policy, and may occasionally misstate coverage;
- the only authoritative source of your coverage is your actual policy document and your insurer;
- you must independently verify any information from the Service before relying on it to make a decision;
- we do not guarantee that the analysis is accurate, complete, current, or fit for any particular purpose.
You use the Service and rely on its output at your own risk.
4. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract to use the Service. The Service is intended for users in the European Economic Area.
5. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to notify us promptly of any unauthorised use. You may sign in using email and password, or via Google or Apple.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- upload documents or personal data of other people without a lawful basis or their permission;
- upload unlawful, infringing, or malicious content;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, other users' data, or our systems;
- copy, scrape, reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except as permitted by law;
- use the Service to build a competing product, or resell or redistribute it without our written permission;
- use the Service in any way that violates applicable law or these Terms.
We may suspend or terminate access for breach of this section.
7. Your content and the licence you grant us
You retain all rights to the documents and content you upload ("Your Content"). We do not claim ownership of Your Content.
To operate the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and analyse Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you — including sending the relevant text to our AI sub-processor to generate your analysis, as described in our Privacy Policy. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to the retention terms in the Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload Your Content.
8. Our intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, the "sotra" name and logo, and all related intellectual property, belongs to sotra or its licensors. These Terms do not grant you any rights in our intellectual property except the limited right to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.
9. Fees and subscriptions
The Service is currently provided free of charge, subject to usage limits. If we introduce paid plans or features, the applicable prices, billing terms, renewal terms, and any refund policy will be presented to you before you purchase and will form part of these Terms.
10. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including our AI provider (OpenAI), our infrastructure and authentication provider (Supabase), and our email provider (Resend). Your use of the Service may be subject to those providers' availability, and we are not responsible for their acts or omissions beyond our reasonable control.
11. Service availability
We aim to keep the Service available and reliable, but we provide it on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times, and we may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- we are not liable for any loss arising from your reliance on the Service's analysis, including any insurance claim that is denied, underpaid, or affected because you relied on the Service instead of your actual policy or insurer;
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill;
- our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim and (b) €100.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability where it cannot lawfully be excluded or limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any mandatory rights you have as a consumer under Estonian or EU law. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected by these Terms.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from within the Service. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or if required by law. On termination, the data-deletion terms in our Privacy Policy apply.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date, and where changes are material we will take reasonable steps to notify you. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
15. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Estonia, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you live. Disputes will be subject to the courts of Estonia, except that, as a consumer, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence where EU law gives you that right.
